TRAINING SCHOOL PHOBIA
SGT: TITO OKELLO
Why do majority of officers fear training school? The idea of refresher or being deployed to serve at the training schools send jitters in the spine of many. But why? One would do all that is within their power of influence to jettison such call to the dustbin. If this notion is true, then the objectives of training schools should be reviewed. The schools should not leave a negative impact in the mind of an officer. This proves counter productive.
Training schools are meant to train and make ready officers for the duty ahead of them. Officers generally depreciate in knowledge and readiness over time, their is need to have a continuous training program. Just like a Vehicle would have to stop by a service station to enable it serve longer and effectively, so is an officer.
SCHOOL OF PARA-MILITARY TRAINING
SGT TITO OKELLO
The School of Paramilitary Training (SPMT) is the training Unit of Kenya Forest Service (KFS). The School was functionally not in existence until 2007 when Kenya Forest Service came into inception after the enactment of Forest Act 2005. The school is mandated to train KFS personnel especially Enforcement and Compliance (ENCOM) officers on Law Enforcement Skills and knowledge that is highly applicable in their line of duty. It also instills discipline and strict observance to the hierarchy of command and control.
IS THE TACTICAL FIELD EXERCISE REALLY NECESSARY?
SGT SAMUEL LEKISHON
All over the world, basic paramilitary training is at the core of any paramilitary culture. Kenya Forestry College offers such training at its School of Paramilitary Training (SPMT). In the Kenya Forest Service, the training formerly used to be a preserve of its disciplined staff but is now also offered to its professional and technical arms. Therefore the paramilitary culture is gradually bursting its banks thus becoming an integral aspect of the service at large, a change attributable to the evolving Kenyan legislations and premised on the socio-environmental factors.
