Keraita Forest

Keraita Forest is a forest located in Kemende town along the Nairobi –Nakuru Highway. The forest boarders the Aberdare’s mountain range to the south and is actually part of the Aberdare ecosystem. The forest has interesting hiking trails and natural features like the: keraita cave and a waterfall. The trails were established by the Kijabe Environment Volunteers, a local community organization that works to conserve the rich biodiversity. One of the trails is the Carbacid Trail that leads to keraita waterfall on the Gatamaiyu River and the adjacent cave that is home to small bat colony.

 

Kereita forest offers lots of adventure based activities in the most beautiful landscapes and scenic views.  One activity that stands out is zip lining. The forest has the LONGEST zip lines in East Africa that stretch more than two kilometres. It has 6 zip lines, all offering picturesque views of the Aberdares forest. Some of the activities that stand out include:

Visiting hours

The Forest is open every day except Mondays, unless is it is a public holiday. Entry to The Forest is free of charge. However, you pay for the activities that you shall undertake at the location

 

How to Get To Keraita

Keraita forest is located just an hour away from Nairobi. if driving you will take the nairobi-Nakuru highway then branch off  at the total petrol station at Kimende from there the directions are well indicated all through from there to the location of the forest.

If using public means take a matatu heading to kijabe at the globe roundabout in Nairobi then alight at kimende then take a taxi to the forest.
